Catalina 22 Region 8 Genoa Championship Regatta May 27-29 (Gold & Silver Fleets)

Entry Fee: $ 65 ($5 discount for USSA members) includes the Saturday night dinner & lunches for the skipper.  Continental breakfasts are included in the entry fees for skipper and crew.

Additional Saturday Lunches: $ 5 (available for pickup Saturday morning). 

Additional Dinners & Sunday Lunch combined: $ 20 for each for additional crew, family members or friend’s dinner.

o   0800-930 -  Registration and launch boats

o   0930  -  Welcome and skipper’s meeting

o   1100 -   Warning for first race of the day.  Additional race(s) to follow-wind permitting.  No race to start after 1630

NOTICE OF RACE & SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

1.RULES

1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2021-2024, the Notice of Race , the Catalina 22 One design Class Rules, and the Sailing Instructions. Sailing instructions will be handed out at registration,

2. NOTICE TO COMPETITORS

2.1 Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice board located at the LWSC clubhouse.  2.2 Any changes in the SI or NOR will be posted before 0900 hours on the day it will take effect.

3. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY

3.1 Region 8 Genoa Championship-Participation in Catalina 22 Class regattas in the capacity of skipper/helmsman shall be limited to owners of Catalina 22 sloops and their immediate families, who also will be members of the Catalina 22 National Sailing Association in good standing and reside in Region 8.

3.2 The boat is required to hold adequate third - party insurance, and it is the owner or owner’s representative’s sole and inescapable responsibility to ensure that the insurance is in place and is adequate.

3.3 Liability Waiver Form- As a condition of entry, each owner, skipper and each individual participating crewmember shall sign a liability/media release. The fully executed Liability Waiver Form shall be submitted at registration prior to racing. The Liability Waiver Form will be available at registration.

4. EQUIPMENT AND MEASUREMENT CHECKS

4.1 Each boat shall produce or have on file a valid measurement certificate. The Fleet 82 Measurer or his designee shall measure all sails prior to the close of registration.

4.2 A boat or equipment may be inspected at any time by the Measurer for compliance with the most current class rules and sailing instructions.

5. SIGNALS MADE ASHORE

5.1 Signals made ashore will be displayed from the flagpole located at the LWSC Headquarters.

5.2 If a postponement is signaled ashore, the warning signal will be made not less than thirty minutes (30 min.) after the AP is lowered.

6. SCHEDULE OF RACES

6.1 For the first race on Saturday, classes will start at 1100 in the following order: Gold, Silver. Lunch will be held on the water after the first race. A start time for the 2nd race will be announced by the Race Committee. Subsequent races each day will be held as soon as possible after the end of the previous race.

On Sunday the first race will start at 930. No race will be started after 1200PM

7. CHECK IN AND WITHDRAWING

7.1 Before the warning signal for the first race each day, each yacht shall sail by the race committee boat on starboard tack, hail her sail number, and get a response from the RC.

7.2 Any yacht that retires from a race shall notify the RC as soon as possible, if not on the water, as soon as reaching shore.

7.3 With the exception of RRS 62 Redress, yachts failing to check in properly before the first race each day will be scored a 20% penalty for each race sailed that day. With the exception of RRS 62 Redress, yachts failing to notify the RC during a race will be scored not greater than DSQ.

7.4 Each boat shall display a ribbon indicating fleet association from her backstay. This ribbon should be prominent and attached prior to checking in each morning on the water. The ribbons for each boat within a class are received at check in.

8.  CLASS FLAG

8.1 The class flag for the Gold Fleet will be a Gold Flag with the Catalina 22 insignia.

8.2 The class flag for the Silver Fleet will be a Silver Flag with the Catalina 22 insignia.

9. VENUE-RACING AREA

The racing area will be Lake Worth, between Highway 199 bridge and the Loop 820 bridge.

10. COURSE

The course will be windward/leeward, with a windward offset mark rounded to port and a leeward gate. The course letter will be designated on a board hung from the race committee boat. A number following the course letter will indicate the number of complete laps around the course. See EXHIBIT A. Additional course may be added to the SI and will be posted on the competitor’s bulletin board at the LWSC clubhouse no later than 0900 on the day they are to take effect.

11. MARKS

11.1 The windward and leeward marks will be large orange inflatable cylinders with the offset mark being a smaller red inflatable ball. 

11.2 If course is shortened, the new finish line will be represented by a blue flag on the RC boat with flag “S” and the nearest mark located to port of the RC boat.

11.3 Exhibit “A” shows the course, course designations, the marks in order and the rounding direction of each mark.

11.4 Any change of course will be indicated by a “C” flag. The new temporary marks will be multi colored balls.

 

 

12. STARTING SYSTEM

12.1 RRS 26 will be used for starting all races. A boat starting later than five minutes after her starting signal will be scored Did Not Start. This changes rule A4. The warning signal for each succeeding class shall be made one (1) minute after the preceding class. For the second race of the day, multiple horn or whistle signals will be sounded 1 minute before a start sequence. This modifies RRS 26. Boats whose warning signal has not been made shall avoid the starting area. The starting area is defined as 100 yards in all directions from the starting line

13. STARTING AND FINISHING LINES

13.1 The starting line will be between an orange flag and pole abeam of the LWSC RC boat and an orange buoy set off the port side of the RC boat  

13.2 The finishing line will be between a blue flag and pole abeam of the LWSC RC boat and an orange buoy set off the starboard side of the LWSC  RC boat.

13.3 The start/finish lines are restricted during a race. After the start, a yacht may only cross the start/finish line to finish the race. This changes RRS 28.1. The penalty will be DSQ.

14. ON WATER COMMUNICATION

14.1 Radio communications will be attempted for announcements and notifications, however not required. Official race communications will be on CH 68.

15. TIME LIMIT

15.1 The time limit for the first yacht in each fleet to finish will be one and one-half (1.5) hours after that fleet’s start.

15.2 Yachts not finishing thirty (30) minutes after the first yacht in their class to finish will be scored DNF. This changes RRS 35 and A 5.

16. PROTESTS

16.1 A protesting yacht shall notify the RC of its intent to protest at the conclusion of the race in which the incident occurred unless unable to do so because of damage. This modifies RRS 61.

16.2 Protests shall be delivered to the official notice board located at the LWSC clubhouse, within forty-five (45) minutes after RC boat docks and sounds one long signal. Protest hearings will be held as soon as possible after racing each day.

17. SCORING

The Low Point System of Appendix A of the racing rules will apply. No score will be excluded. Six races are scheduled. One race constitutes a regatta.

18. TROPHIES

Trophies will be awarded to First, Second and Third place finishers in fleets that have 3 or more registered yachts.
